There are many stories of Wing Chun that exist today, however, there is a legend generally accepted that a nun named Ng Mui Shaolin, a master of Kung Fu, developed the art almost 300 years ago in the south China. At that time, the Southern Shaolin Temple was a sanctuary for the Chinese revolution was trying to overthrow the Manchu rule.

A teaching martial arts system in the temple, but it took nearly 20 years to produce an effective fighter. Aware of the need to produce effective fighters faster, five major masters of China met and chose the most effective techniques Kung, theories and principles of various Fu styles. They then developed a training program that has produced effective fighters in 5-7 years. Before the program was implemented, the temple was attacked and destroyed.

Among those who escaped, Ng Mui was the only survivor who knew the whole system. However, he realized that much of what he learned was ineffective for a small and fragile to be used in a larger, stronger female. She reviewed what I had learned and technical cast who were slow or depends on the strength or size. He developed a combat system which allowed for lower small person to destroy, stronger nobody in seconds. The new system of Ng Mui was well preserved and handed down only a few students, very dedicated. The style became known as Wing Chun after the first student Ng Mui, a woman named Yim Wing Chun.

Yim Wing Chun was a native of Canton, China. His mother died shortly after Leung Bok Chau commitment. Her father, Yim Yee, was later falsely accused of a crime. Rather than risk jail, Yim Yee and his daughter left the area and settled at the foot of Mount Tai Leung. Here Ng Mui Yim Yee met and Wing Chun. Wing Chun was a beautiful teenager who had attracted the unwanted attention of a local man who constantly tried to force her to marry him by threatening to harm his father. Ng Mui learned of this and decided to teach Wing Chun fighting techniques so she could protect themselves. Wing Chun followed Ng Mui in the mountains White Crane Temple, and began to learn Kung Fu. Wing Chun trained until she mastered the techniques. She then challenged the bully to a fight and beat him.

Wing Chun system is transmitted from a direct line of succession from its origin. After marrying Leung Bok Chau, taught Wing Chun Kung Fu. He in turn passed these techniques. As we passed on the techniques, the Six-one-half-point long pole was incorporated into Wing Chun Kung Fu.
