The Procedure For The Tdcs Therapy

By Elaine Guthrie

You may have heard about this process from your friends or colleagues but did not quite understand what it entails. The tdcs is the transcranial direct current stimulation which refers to a process that entails the use of low direct current to stimulate some parts of the brain. This form of therapy has been in use for several years now. It was initially developed to help treat people with some brain injuries like strokes and so on. The process involves the delivery of current to your scalp using some electrodes. This current is intended to create some neuron stimulation in your brain.

The several other problems it has been known to treat are memory losses, attention span, mathematical solving, language speaking and problem solving. The developers continue to advance their research to find out the better and most safe ways to carry it out with optimal results. You can do the procedure yourself provided you understand what you need to do and have the right tools to do it.

This therapy simply works by having some electrodes placed at the scalp of the patient. These electrodes are intended to pass current from one end to the other end through the brain. As the current passes through, it excites or reduces the excitement of neurons in the brain thus helping achieve some outward effects on the individual. The placing of electrodes should be carefully done to avoid faults.

The changes achieved by increasing or reducing these neurons excitement results in the alteration of brain functions. It is this alteration that helps change some behaviors or actions by an individual. Depending on the regions that are targeted, different results are achieved. This is what makes the therapy fit to cater for different treatments.

The procedure as said before can be carried out by an ordinary person provided they have the required tools and knowledge on how to conduct it. It is however very much advisable that an expert be consulted for this. The procedure requires you to have some electrodes and a direct current power supply device. The device should be able to deliver constant current throughout the process to make it effective. The electrodes are majorly two which include the anode and cathode. The anode is positively charged while cathode is negatively charged. The current should flow from the anode to the cathode.

Clear the scalp where the cathodes will be placed. This is necessary as there needs to be a strong connection between them and the skin. The electrodes should be well focused to the points of interest for effectiveness.

One among these electrodes is placed at the region where stimulation ought to be achieved while another is placed at the opposite side of the region of interest. It can be placed on the neck or shoulder too. The current is then turned on and let to flow freely until the set time is over. It should then turn itself off.

Research has shown that you can now achieve more effective result by this using more electrodes. More electrodes are able to target a wider region and reach a higher number of specific cortical structures. This in turn generates more intense and lasing excitement changes.
