Martial arts (MA) refer to codified systems and traditions of combat that people practice for a wide range of reasons. Some of the reasons for which people practice martial arts include law enforcement, military, self-defense, entertainment, and personal development. In terms of personal development, people practice combat skills in order to improve their spiritual, mental, and/or physical lives. People in certain nations engage in this practice as a way of conserving national intangible cultural heritage. When in need of Kids martial arts Toledo should be visited.

There are several criteria to use in classifying martial arts practices. In the first criteria, the art is classified into unarmed and armed art. In armed martial arts, individuals engage in activities like archery, swordsmanship and spearman ship. On the other hand, in unarmed MA, people use their feet and hands to strike. These techniques also involve grappling and many other ground techniques.

It is believed that Asian countries more so China, India and Japan are the origin of unarmed MAs. Activities such as archery, swimming in armor, unarmed combat, and swordsmanship were the most focused on in Japanese traditional MA training. MA has a number of sub categories. Most of these categories focus on using weapons such as sickles, thrashing frails and knives. A number of them also focus on unarmed hand combat.

Ninjutsu is a very special kind of art which was developed specifically to be used by the military. Military spies in feudal Japan who trained in Ninjutsu were taught many skills that helped them to spy on enemy forces without being discovered. They were trained in skills such as medicine, explosives, meteorology, geography, concealment, escape, and disguise. Many of the old fashioned forms of armed arts such as kyudo and kendo are practiced as sports today.

People also practice some unarmed arts such as tae kwondo, sumo, karate and judo as sports. For self defense, people learn and practice arts in aikido, kung Fu and hapkido. Other forms of the art have been established to improve the health and spiritual growth of participants. Spiritual development is achieved by arts that bring coherence between the body and the mind.

Martial art training has numerous benefits to offer to the trainees. These benefits are emotional, physical, mental and spiritual in nature as mentioned before. As an individual engages in various aspects of MAs, they become physically fit. An individual becomes stronger, more flexible, also with more stamina and faster. Martial arts engages the entire body, hence makes one physically fit in all their body muscles.

This exercise usually boosts the mental self-esteem in trainees. Individuals with low self-esteem are bound to gain a lot from MA since their confidence is elevated and they are made to believe in themselves. In case children take MAs classes, they grow to become confident adults.

Many concepts of traditional martial are being used in modern military training. Point shooting is a perfect example of such a concept. In point shooting, soldiers are taught to shoot in awkward situations based on muscle memory. Muscle memory is characteristic in iaidoka where swordsmen master movements with their swords.
