All About Martial Arts Training Mats

By Douglas Roberts

When one is doing any kind of combat training, it is important that he would have the proper mats that can be used. These pieces of equipment are especially important if one is a coach or if one is a head of the gym. For those who are hot and heavy into combat sports, here are some things that should be known about martial arts training mats.

Now to know more about these pieces equipment, it is first better to understand why this piece of equipment is very crucial to training. Now what the mat does is that it essentially keeps the practitioners safe from injury whenever they would fall down. In the event that a muay thai fighter for instance, gets knocked down, then at least his body will not be injured.

Now other than that, this would actually be very useful for the practitioners when they would do sit ups or maybe even exercises that involve jumping. When one would do sit ups, then his back will not be so much affected from the movement of his spine on the ground. Of course a mat will also be able to lessen the impact to the feet if one would be doing a lot of jumping exercises.

Now mats are also very helpful specifically for martial artists because most of them would be training with their bare feet. Now if one would train bare foot on the floor, chances are that his feet will get scratched from something on the ground. Of course other than that, one may actually slip on some water that spilled to the ground because bare floors are very slippery.

Now for those who would want to buy a mat, there are three common ones to choose from. The most common one would be the puzzle mat which is a big mat that is split into several puzzle pieces that can be put together. This is very practical because it can be brought anywhere by just dismantling it.

Now if one is more into the wrestling types of sports like pro wrestling, jiu jitsu, and even judo, then the tatami mats are the best bet. Now these are the best for wrestling sports because they are soft and flexible which is great for breaking falls. If one is thrown to the floor, then the tatami mat can actually save the back from injury.

Now the more economical kind which can be used for all combat arts would be the gym mat that can be rolled. It is not too hard and not too soft so practically any martial artist can practice on it. Also since it can be rolled, then one can actually bring it around wherever he goes.

So if one is a fighter, then the best thing for his practice would be to buy high quality mats. In fact, these are probably the most important pieces of equipment for every fighter. This is to make sure that the fighter is not injured too much as he trains.
